It’s rare that we do any personal posts, but so much has happened in the last few years and we wanted to give everyone a little window into one of the biggest milestones — last spring we bought our first home here in Nashville, TN! After living in Franklin for about 5 years, we had wonderful renting experiences but were ready for the next step. We were excited about the idea of being close to the city but not in the hustle and bustle of everything, and after about 15 walk-throughs a home in Crieve Hall (south Nashville) that had previously slipped through our grasp came back on the market – destiny! We were out at the property within an hour of the listing going live, and pretty instantly fell in love with this quirky 1300 sq ft 1950’s ranch (those floors, doors, and windows! eek!). Though 3 bed 1 bath home isn’t large (which I secretly really love – less to clean and less ability to hang on to too much STUFF,) we have .75 acres of land, and Eddie’s favorite — a 900 sq ft completely finished apartment with full bath and kitchen in the back! We initially planned on doing airbnb with the space but once Eddie set it up with his workspace and recording equipment we decided him having total access to work and create was the best use of the space. And of course when family and friends visit, we have a great suite for them to stay in!
We have spent the last few months making it our own, with plans for so much more. We wanted the space to feel clean and minimal yet warm and cozy, sometimes that balance is a tricky one. I’m sure I’ll redecorate every year (or more) because I get bored easily, but I really really love how everything came together. It feels the most true to who we are of all the places we’ve lived. Many of my favorite pieces are thrifted or found at Southeastern Salvage (like our living room rug which I’m totally infatuated with), and we did some special things like paint our own family art work (22 month old Eli included!) for a large piece in our dining room, but there were also a lot of beautiful brands that went into making this place what it is. We partnered with Scandis, Scandinavian furniture to pull the living room together with their brilliant Colm sectional and sheepskin throw and I could not be more thrilled with their quality. The sectional literally could not be a better size for our space and it is serving the exact purpose we had in mind — plenty of seating for hosting friends or as it’s been most commonly used, perfect for our family to sprawl out on. It is SO comfortable and the color is a deep charcoal with a hint of blue that really grounds the room with all of the warm tones. It is truly the ideal couch for us. We are so thrilled they chose to work with us as their very first influencer partnership and could not be more thrilled with how amazing the whole process has been. (Psst — sharing discount codes for you guys below!) Also check out their sister company, Dania, for more beautiful Scandinavian pieces.
We love to work with small businesses and brag on their beautiful products, so if you’re curious about some of the items in our home, read on! The large majority of framing in our home came from our friends over at Framed and Matted through an ongoing partnership I have had with them, and loved every moment of it… they can make frames in any sizes and their quality can’t be matched! Our beautiful macrame wall hanging was custom made by Emily of Barton Craft & Design – she is a doll and so very talented at what she does, we love the bohemian accent and texture it gives to the room. The mudcloth (couch) and kilim (bed) pillows are from a collaboration with D&K Renewal and they are so stunning. All indigo pillows were gifted from the lovely Lisa of Indigo Wares – can’t get enough of them! All linens (bed and bath) we use are from ongoing collaborations with the babes at Cariloha – the best, silky smooth organic bamboo products ever. The gorgeous solid wood shelving above my desk are from Shelfology where they make custom shelving for any space – can’t wait for a kitchen makeover to work with them again! Our letterboard (complete with a classic Michael Scott quote) is from a collab with Letterboard Company! The killer pendant light above our desk was a gift from Schoolhouse Electric — can I just have one of everything from their site?! Seriously amazing stuff. Eli’s amazing play tent is from our friends over at Sprouts San Francisco – he loves it! All of our play/picnic mats our from our friends at Gathre, and our favorite small shop for Eli’s clothing and toys (like his little hazel village dolls) is Bitte — collaborating with those two has been a complete JOY. The flag in our back entry (means “God is Greater” and has been such a significant message to me during this season of life — let’s chat over coffee on that one) is from our dear friends at White Flag — this was an item we gladly purchased to support the beautiful work they are doing.
Last but not least we cannot thank Kaylee Pauley, interior design goddess, for all of her help with the big and little details of bringing our modern vintage vision to life. She was always so quick to respond and beyond helpful in choosing sizes and pieces to fill in our space. She is amazing at what she does and I strongly encourage my Nashville friends who need a little (or a lot) of help getting their place established or redecorated to contact her – firstname.lastname@example.org. I can’t wait to eventually put to use the beautiful kitchen plans that she drew up for us!
We hope you enjoy our little home tour! We omitted the kitchen because it is tiny and needs some work (and to be honest was completely messy while I was shooting!) We are so thankful for this space we can call our own and grow our family into, we already have so many sweet memories!
